Frugal Living - Grow Apples

Apples from 2008 crop.

Since moving house, we have started our garden from scratch and, on Boxing Day 2008, we planted the first of our fruit trees: 2 apples, a cherry, a pear and a plum. On 19th February 2009, a second plum tree and a second pear tree were planted. On 12th March 2009, a further two apple trees were plante. At this time, we were still using stewed apples from 2008 crop from the previous garden, I had stewed and frozen most of them. In March 2010, two more cherry trees and a Bramley apple tree were planted to complete out mini orchard. I also have 2 smaller plum trees in a pot, seeded from windfall Victoria plums from a previous address.

09/07/08 - Apples coming along nicely despite all the torrential downpours. All picked, stewed & frozen by end of October before moving house.
Homemade apple crumble baked with homegrown apples sprinkled with cinnamon, not much beats that.
14/03/09 - Four of the nine miniature fruit trees
14/05/09 - The new apple trees are all in blossom.
07/06/09 - Tiny apples beginning to appear on a couple of the trees, although most of the flower buds were removed to help strengthen the trees for next year. 16/06/09 - The apples are beginning to fill out but I'll need to start watering more as the weather has been very dry for the past couple of weeks. Might get enough apples for a pie in year one.
13/07/09 This 'Greensleeves' tree doesn't appear to be growing green apples! 27/02/10 A Bramley apple treein a large pot is added to the collection.
