Frugal Living - Grow Broccoli

This has, so far, been quite easy to grow. In 2008, I planted seeds in trays on the window sill before transplanting them to the garden in mid May. After moving house in November, I started again with the broccoli, sewing seeds at the beginning of April into an old basin in the greenhouse.

Above: 04/06/08 quite healthy looking plants, in my opinion. I chose this particular plant as there was a Cabbage White Butterfly on it - until I clicked to take the picture!

Left: 04/06/08 - Netted to protect from neighbouring cats who are attempting to destroy anything that the slugs & snails don't get to first!

09/07/08 - An odd array of what looks like broccoli, broad beans and parsnips in the 'wigwam'! 09/07/08 - The main crop of broccoli. I have 3 lots growing in different parts of the garden
09/07/08 - Close up of the beginnings of what I hope will survive to be broccoli! 23/07/08 - I don't know why, but some of the broccoli is flowering already!!
23/07/08 - I'm remaining hopeful of at least a couple of the plants being worthy of eating. 30/07/08 - Tomorrow's dinner, to be served with cauliflower and sauce.
12/04/09 - Just in time for Easter, this year's seeds have germinated in their wash basin in the greenhouse. 14/05/09 - The seedlings in the wash basin in greenhouse. I have already thinned out a few and will start planting some out before the end of May.
07/06/09 - Broccoli seedlings awaiting planting out into gardens here and next door. 28/06/09 I just spotted the first broccoli growing in among the cabbages on the raised bed!
13/07/09 - More surprises! The broccoli is sprouting all over the garden! Maybe I have no cabbages! 13/07/09 - I picked the first head of broccoli last night, the others are still a bit small.
