Frugal Living and an Attempt to Grow Carrots

To date, I have had no luck with growing carrots, so I am hoping that yet another house move and yet another new garden project will prove to be more fruitful. On 24/02/09 I planted my first carrot seeds of the year into a small coldframe. I'm planning on having the rest planted into large pots to help prevent slugs, wildbirds, hens or ducks eating the new plants if they decide to grow. However, in March, the coldframes got emptied & moved to make way for a greenhouse and patio. The contents just got shovelled into a raised bed, so I haven't a clue if any of those seedlings will have survived. All other seeds were sown in tubs.

16/06/09 - Stupidity took over when I accidentally planted onions on top of my carrot seeds in this tub. 16/06/09 - These little carrots survived the move, as did a couple of other tubs.
23/06/09 - I'm still thinning out carrots. Some of the thinnings already look like miniscule carrots and are fairly straight roots. 7 carrot tubs on the patio now and I've spotted a few growing among cabbages in the raised bed and in a planter. 09/11/09 After many months of waiting, I pulled up the first tub of transplanted carrots and oh my goodness! Now I see what happens after root disturbance. Some were too obscene to upload the photographs! But the carrots grew, nonetheless!
