Frugal Living - Growing Courgettes

We were lucky enough to harvest a few courgettes in the previous garden that had been planted by the landlord, so I thought I'd try growing a few from seed here in the new garden. My first lot of seeds, planted along with pumpkins, failed to germinate, so I planted the remaining 6 courgette seeds in late March 2009. I sat the tray on the kitchen windowsill then moved it to the greenhouse. I'm hoping to get at least 2 plants out of this for my square foot garden.

12/04/09 - Easter Sunday and we've had some sunshine, so the seeds were moved out to the greenhouse. 2 of the 6 have germinated so far. 25/04/09 - Several more of the courgette seeds have sprouted and are beginning to produce their true leaves.
24/06/09 - There are 2 courgettes & a cucumber in the square foot garden, one at each foot of the tripod for vertical growing. 24/06/09 After a slug or snail attack, this courgette was rescued from the square foot garden and transplanted to a tub on the greenhouse patio
28/06/09 Another leaf has appeared on the rescued courgette plant. 02/07/09 A gift from the new neighbours, this dwarfs my little courgette plants. Now in greenhouse

13/07/09 Leaps and bounds ahead of my home planted seeds, the courgette in greenhouse has plenty of flowers.
