What's Growing in the Greenhouse

Peas grown in square foot wooden planters in 2008

There's already been a saga with the greenhouse since moving to the new place in November 2008. First of all, we rebuilt the plastic one alongside the garage, then discovered it was on the wrong side and didn't get the sun. Then we excavated a plot at the other side of the garage and moved it there. Then found out we'd moved to a farm that was set within a wind tunnel and the whole greenhouse blew away! So, we eventually managed to get a very small greenhouse built behind the garage, constructed from what was reclaimed from another neighbour's old conservatory. No chickens allowed in here!

This was the greenhouse as it stood in the previous garden, in 2008 16/11/08 - As soon as we moved here, we built the greenhouse back up - in the shade!
28/11/09 - Excavations begin to find a sunnier location for the greenhouse 06/01/09 - the greenhouse has been moved and its previous location awaits the shed.
Close up of the greenhouse - tied down, bricked down, metal poles sunk the recommended 6" 25/01/09 - The space where the greenhouse used to be - before the gale force winds claimed it!
19/03/09 - A brand new look with our half of a salvaged conservatory and patio 19/03/09 - Side view, previous site has been converted to raised beds & potato patch
13/04/09 - The miniscule greenhouse is filling up fast. I need an extension already! 02/05/09 - A bit of rejiggng and a 2nd table fits in but that's filled up quickly as well. Time to get serious!
07/06/09 - Butternut squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, sugarsnap peas and chilli peppers 07/06/09 - As one lot gets planted out, the next lot get potted up - tomatoes & peppers
07/06/09 - Tomatoes, peppers, chillis and broccoli are all doing well. 07/06/09 - Peas, beans, peppers, parsley and globe artichokes
07/06/09 The greenhouse patio is filling up but the hens have also found they like it there. 14/06/09 The frame from the old plastic greenhouse has been converted into a patio fence
16/06/09 Inside and outside the greenhouse is being used to full capacity for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and squash. 23/06/09 - The patio is filling up with planters and is about to become even fuller once the rest of the tubs of carrots and peas get moved there.
13/07/09 The tomatoes and cucumbers along the edge of greenhouse patio 13/07/09 Potatoes, carrots, leeks, onions, garlic, peas, parsley and salad leaves all doing well.
13/07/09 Potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, parsley and salad leaves all doing well. 13/07/09 The courgette in the greenhouse is leaps and bounds ahead of the outdoor one.

20/03/10 The greenhouse patio starts filling up with potatoes, onions, carrots, chives, leeks, garlic and radishes. I think I might plant up the 'cow planter' with flowers to brighten it up.
