Frugal Living and another Attempt to Grow Tomatoes

New house, new garden, no greenhouse any longer as we lost it to the storms and now live in such an exposed spot that it would be ludicrous to attempt to rebuild a plastic greenhouse and expect it to survive. Regardless of this, I have planted seeds in 2009 and will find somewhere to grow them, even if it's in baskets outside. (May 2009 - I now have 8 varieties of tomatoes planted, including Truffle, Krim, tumbling, Cherry and Money Maker

05/02/09 - First of the Cherry tomato seeds have grown in a pot on the kitchen windowsill 09/03/09 - Second lot of tomatoes, Moneymaker variety, have now germinated in their egg box.
09/03/09 - I now have 12 small cherry tomato plants growing nicely on the window sills. 19/03/09 - It may be small, but it's a greenhouse converted from part of a recycled conservatory/
19/03/09 - This shouldn't blow away! Decking and patio area will be great for pots and tubs. 12/04/09 - All the seedlings have now been moved out into the new greenhouse.

26/05/09 - First of the cherry tomatoes repotted, staked, tied and flowering

2008 photographs from inside the plastic greenhouse. I do still have the remains of the buckled frame and the plastic cover but think it would be a pointless exercise trying to repair it in such an exposed area.

04/06/08 - Tiny buds starting to appear on the first of the plants. 07/06/08 - Buds beginning to open and I've had to tie up the biggest plants
13/06/08 - The flowers are beginning to open on the first plant
15/06/08 - 13 out of the 18 plants now have flowers opening
15/06/08 - Close up of the flowers, watching carefully for signs of tomatoes next 09/07/08 - As the plants grow, I trim off the foliage and more flowers appear.
09/07/08 - We have tomatoes! And lots of them! We just need more sun. 09/07/08 - This could be a bumper crop IF these fevelop and ripen. Come on sunshine!

12/09/08 - With hardly any sun this summer, the tomatoes are rotting on the vines, so I'm having to rescue them green and hope for the best.
