About The Artist

Harvey Mayson was born in Eastbourne, East Sussex and studied Fine Art at Liverpool for his B. A. Degree. His keen interest in horse racing began with sketching at the big Chester May meeting during his student years and he has developed as an equestrian artist, living in the Newmarket area for a year painting and photographing racehorses before moving to his present home in Dumfries and Galloway in 2004.

In recent years his commissioned subjects include Dancing Brave, Desert Orchid, Best Mate, Istabraq, Shergar, One Man, Red Rum and Moscow Flyer. He has exhibited in Sussex and the North West of England and in 2007 held his first exhibition in Scotland. During his time in Scotland he has broadened his portfolio to include working horses and trotters, inspired by the local Bladnoch Trot and Agricultural shows.

Harvey also works as a professional sports writer. He began working at his local newspaper in the south of England before going freelance to work on specialist sporting publications. He writes for a number of specialist sports sites both at home and abroad including football, horse racing and sports betting sites. He has also covered a wide range of sporting events such as the Paralympic Games, Euro 2012 and the Grand National.
