'Friends of Frugaldom' can now take advantage of this great opportunity to enjoy self-catering accommodation in our holiday statics at Balminnoch, in the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway region of southwest Scotland, where you can relax, unwind and get back to nature.
We are offering short stay holiday accommodation to all friends, family and followers of Frugaldom while we are planting the new woodlands, planning creative events and growing this dream project into a reality . The area offers an ideal getaway for those seeking natural inspiration or relaxation!
Future plans for Frugaldom include bartering at the Trading Post barn, getting hitched at the Hitching Post, getting poetic in the poetry pod, crafting in the cabin, writing in the retreat or simply seeking out a hide where you can watch for the local wildlife.
We hope Frugaldom will become a source of inspiration for fellow writers, artists, crafters, photographers and, of course, followers of our frugal challenges. For anyone looking for an even less expensive option, there are facilities for tents, tourers and campervans, all within about one mile of the Frugaldom project.
While work progresses, our visitors can make the most of all that the nearby holiday park has to offer, while recharging, relaxing and unwinding. We have a 2-bedroom and a 3-bedroom caravan available, each fully equipped with all you need for a break in the country. There are even a few little luxury extras available, such as :
We enjoy an elevated position with views of Loch Heron and the surrounding countryside. There is easy access parking by the caravans and the Frugaldom project, itself, is only about one mile from the site. The Galloway Forest Park, just a few miles away, has dark sky status, reflecting how often we witness spectacular starry skies. We can't guarantee sunshine or shooting stars, but we can guarantee the frugaldom experience.
Caravana are accessed by steps leading up onto wooden decking, which provides adequate outdoor seating space during finer weather, or for star-gazing. When in season, a container garden provides herbs for cooking and the freshly picked sweet gale, grown at the Frugaldom project, helps deter the Scottish midges. Our location is adjacent to a small woodland where we have bird feeding stations. Jays, nut hatches, tree creepers and the greater spotted woodpeckers have been among the regular visitors.
Kitchens are fully equipped with gas cooker, microwave, toaster, fridge freezer, slow cooker and electric kettle plus the usual cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and cooking utensils.
The main living and dining areas are spacious, light and comfortable with adequate seating for friends and family. The caravan shown here has 1 double bedroom, one twin room and a single room with space for a cot. In addition, there is a foldaway double bed in the living area, which allows the caravan to sleep up to 8, ideal if you are bringing family and/or friends. The 2-bedroom caravan offers a large double room with toilet and wash basin en suite and a spacious twin room, plus foldaway double bed in the living area, allowing for a maximum of 6.
