Will it fit? Here's the answer to your post measuring problems.

I got so fed up trying to work out the correct value of stamp to put on an envelope, especially when it happened to be a greetings card. There are so many people who, after years and years of being able to do so, just stick on a First or Second Class stamp and pop the envelope into the nearest postbox and then find, to their dismay, that the recipent has had to go and collect it themselves from the post office AND pay a surcharge of over £1 for the priviledge. Royal Mail must be raking in an absolute fortune from this one, simple change they made to their weights and measures policy! It's even worse when you receive the customary notice from the post man informing you that they have been unable to deliver for this precise reason, especially if it's just a greetings card. Greetings card manufacturers, in my opinion, need to start indicating whether or not their products fit through the small slot. If the card is embellished in any way or has a badge attached, then chances are, the answer is a resounding NO, it will not fit through the magical slot that allows you to post it using an ordinary First or Second Class stamp. So... no more mistakes are being made here! I've got my very own, personalised WillItFit.

After being laughed at, jeered and told outright that I was mad and that nobody else in their right mind would pay good money for such an item, I argued my point then set about carrying out some research. Yes, the post office will supply you with a FREE paper brochure, against which you can measure your envelops, packets and parcels, however, have you ever tried to carefully cut out the small letter slot and make it stand up to the pressure of trying to push through an embellished card or a booklet. IT TEARS! IT FOLDS! IT CRUMPLES! Basically, it's rubbish and deserves to be given away free. I researched further into the measuring devices available elsewhere for sale and found a plastic moulded model that looked like a ruler. In fact, it is called a postal ruler. They are available from many stationers and retail outlets. They are precision moulded and mass produced, yet still cost around a fiver to buy. Even on eBay they cost roughly the same by the time you pay dratted postage and packaging! So, I am convinced that my lowly little 'WillItFit', sawn from lightweight 3mm MDF board, with no major precision engineering, is a snip at only £1.99 INCLUDING postage & packaging. What's more, you can decorate it yourself, personalise it, hang it on your wall, use it as a coffee mat, doodle on it, do whatever you want with it, so long as you keep it handy and ensure you never make a mistake with your mail again.
