SCRIPT WRITING CHALLENGE

2005 ~ 2006

The NYK script writing challenge is a 'Membership PLUS' project for inclusion in the Literary Design Brief.

Membership details can be found here.

All subscribers to Membership PLUS receive an initial LDB worksheet. Once you have received your writer's worksheet, or literary design brief, it should be updated regularly in order to reflect your current progress. It is your personal literary status report. Periodically, these documents will be requested for review and/or revision. Your 'literary design brief' is of the utmost importance to you, as an NYK writer, as it forms the basis of your writer's CV.

To participate in our script writing programme, we recommend the use of AIM - AOL's Instant Messenger programme, which can be downloaded free.

What is the Literary Design Brief?

This is basically a resume of an individual writer's work - your literary portfolio. It has been developed by NYK Media to act as a guidline and progressive report by which you, we, or anyone else, can guage your progress and potential for success.

As a writer, you should begin by considering your options. Careful preparation is needed before laying down the foundations to your future literary career. To be professional, you need to earn from your writing - we recommend you print off the free budget sheet to help you calculate just how much. You will also, at some time or another, have to consider securing the services of such individuals as a proofreader, an agent, an editor, a publisher, a producer, a contract lawyer etc. As a 'new' writer, this can be a very daunting and, even, soul-destroying task.

Learning how to cope with rejection and accept criticism in the preliminary stages is paramount. For this reason, we developed our unique literary design brief and incorporated it into our writing programme.

The document may form part of your literary CV when submitting introductions, synopses, treatments and/or sample chapters to agents or publishers / producers.
