Free Food: October 2020 and the start of a new challenge at Frugaldom. This autumn, I am attempting to create a forest food garden on the edge of our 'Legacy Woodland' tree planting project, which borders marshland and is flanked by a small river. The plan is to do this at zero cost so it provides us with free food in the future.

March 2019 marks 20 years since the set-up of our original Scottish Writers group, many of whose members helped create and publish 'Lanarkshire News' (Scotland's first completely online newspaper), 'Now You Know' (in print and online), and 'Paranoid Times' (in print and online). Although we have moved away from printing newspapers, our writing and publishing projects continue. This year, we begin the barn blogging project to run alongside Ecoarts, at Frugaldom.
Recently, I have been mulling over the problem of how to fit my writing into busy days spent at Frugaldom and I came to the conclusion that the best solution was to create a quiet space where I can write, in between planting, pony care and project development, at the barn. This is my first post detailing my journey to becoming a barn blogger.
Mothering Sunday in the UK is 31st March 2019, the same date the clocks spring forward into British summertime. Mother's Day gifts can include anything from home grown flowers to handmade cards and freshly baked goods but if you would prefer to splash out a bit, there are plenty of other options. My suggestion for this year is a weekend break for mum.
Frugaldom is located approximately 10 miles from Newton Stewart, less than a mile from the Three Lochs Holiday Park, where we offer self-catering caravan accommodation for guests attending any of our events.
We're more than half way through February and despite the continuing winter weather, temperatures are starting to get above 6 Degrees C - this means the grass will begin growing and with that, everything else, too. It's time for me to plan the food gardens, prepare the growing spaces and start sowing seeds!
Going on holiday may be a pipe dream for those battling debts or juggling over-stretched budgets, but we all need a break sometimes, if only to help preserve our own sanity! That's why, here at Frugaldom HQ, we are developing bolt holes - specially tailored options to help make your escape affordable, even on the tightest of budgets. Come and learn more about frugal living, experience the lifestyle for yourself and crunch the numbers needed to set yourself on the path to debt freedom.
What is the difference between a pullet egg and a hen egg?
2018 is going to be about concentrating on the little things to enable us to get more of the big things done! Like they say, if you take care of the pennies, then the pounds will take care of themselves. So, our first port of call is the chicken shack, where the Frugaldom hens reside. Last summer, we hatched out some chicks in the incubator - from a dozen eggs, we had 9 chicks but of those, only 8 survived the first 24 hours and 5 of them were cockerels!
